  • Beschreibung: The fatal consequences of accidentally letting the enemy discover secret information are illustrated by an episode set in the trenches. Orders for an attack are passed down from Hindenburg to GHQ to officers in the field. Trench mortars and gas cylinders are prepared and reinforcements arrive. The British are unaware of the forthcoming offensive until a soldier picks up a casual remark by a German over the field telephone. This gives them time to prepare their own defences and when the Germans open fire and advance across no man's land (red-tinted film) they are repulsed. While the German command wonders how the enemy gained advance warning of the attack, the soldier responsible for the failure lies wounded and has time to realise the consequences of his indiscretion before being killed by a well-aimed enemy shell.
